Fifty Dollar Void

Don’t you hate it when your coworker becomes the employee? My thoughts exactly, when last night, one of my customers was a coworker who had just gotten off of work. It was one of my first nights on the register and I was still learning. I had helped a lady get a Playstation and a couple games, so I went to check her out. She had two huge carts full of stuff to buy. So I started ringing her out and when I got to the Playstation, she told me she didn’t want it anymore. So I voided it off of her purchase. Little did I know that when you void something over $50.00, you have to have a manager override the purchase. After I had voided the game system, she had changed her mind and wanted it again. So I put the game system back on her purchase and finished checking her out.
While I was doing this a line had started forming and the next person in line was an employee at Walmart that had just gotten off of work. I didn’t recognize her but she looked very impatient. I was finishing up checking out the lady and pressed total, the screen for a manager override showed up and I was waiting on a manager. The employee then became very rude with me and walked off.
The customer was furious with her, so angry that when the manager did come they had a huge complaint. Now the customer wasn’t mad at me, she had made a point to tell the manager that I was only doing my job. What was this employee’s problem? She needs a lesson learned in professionalism and common courtesy. My final message; people need to be more understanding and patient, don’t be that person everyone hates.
